Hayley
Westenra Wins Japanese Music Awards
The Japan
Gold Disc Awards were held at Tokyo's NHK Hall 10 and 18 March.
New Zealand teenage singer, Hayley Westenra, was announced
as the winner of two major awards. She won "Song Of The
Year" for her single "Amazing Grace", which
has been the theme song of one of Japan's most popular TV
dramas. The second award was "Album Of The Year"
for her album "Pure".
Since
its release in 2003, Hayley Westenra's debut international
album "Pure" has sold over 1 million copies, and
has still only been released to 20 percent of the world market.
The album turned Platinum ten times in New Zealand (making
her the fastest selling local artist of all time), Platinum
in Australia, Gold in Singapore and Hong Kong, and twice Platinum
in the UK.
Hayley
Westenra also performed her first concert tour in Japan in
mid March, with concerts in Tokyo and Osaka.
